Privacy policy

What Kelikello knows about you: almost nothing.

Kelikello runs on your Apple Watch. It has no account, no analytics, no ads and no third-party code. This policy explains the one thing it sends anywhere, and to whom.

Effective 8 October 2026

In short

  • There is no account and no sign-in. We do not know who you are.
  • Your location is processed on the watch. Only a coordinate is sent to the Finnish Meteorological Institute’s open data server, in real time, to fetch the forecast.
  • Saved places and the last weather report stay on your watch. Nothing is sent to The Hangover Company.
  • No analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party SDKs.
  • Apple processes your purchase. We never receive your name or payment details.

This matches the app’s App Store privacy label, Data Not Collected.

Who is responsible

The data controller for the processing described here is The Hangover Company, the developer of Kelikello. Contact: [email protected].

Location

Kelikello asks for location access while the app is in use so that My Location can show the weather where you are. Your position is used for two things:

  1. Naming the place. The watch compares your coordinate with a list of Finnish places built into the app and picks the nearest one, for example “Töölö, Helsinki”. This happens entirely on the watch.
  2. Fetching the forecast. The watch sends the coordinate to FMI’s open data server at opendata.fmi.fi in an ordinary web request and receives the forecast and nearby observations in return.

You can decline location access and use Kelikello with searched places only, and you can change the permission at any time in the watch’s Settings under Privacy & Security, or in the Watch app on iPhone. Your location history is never stored, and your location is never sent to The Hangover Company.

What FMI receives

Weather data comes from the Finnish Meteorological Institute’s open data service. When Kelikello fetches a forecast, FMI’s servers receive the request like any web request: the coordinate of the place you asked about (your position or a place you saved), your device’s IP address and standard connection metadata. Kelikello adds no identifier, account or device ID to the request.

The coordinate is sent only to answer that request in real time. FMI is an independent government agency and handles its server logs under its own terms; see FMI open data. Kelikello is not affiliated with FMI.

What stays on the watch

  • The places you have saved and which one is selected.
  • The most recent weather report, so the app and complications can show something before the next refresh.
  • App settings.

The app and its complications share this data through an App Group container that is private to Kelikello on your watch. It is part of your normal device backup if you have backups turned on, which Apple manages under its own privacy terms. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

What we do not do

  • No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. The app sends us no usage data.
  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
  • No third-party SDKs. The only server the app talks to is FMI’s open data server.
  • No account, and no access to your name, email address, contacts or health data.
  • No selling or sharing of personal data, because we do not have any.

Purchases

Kelikello is sold on the App Store as a one-time purchase. Apple processes the payment, issues the receipt and handles refunds. We receive no payment details and no personal details about buyers, only aggregated sales reports from Apple (for example the number of downloads per country). Apple’s handling of your purchase is covered by Apple’s privacy policy. See also Purchases and refunds.

Apple’s optional analytics

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may give us crash reports and aggregated usage statistics for Kelikello through App Store Connect. Apple provides these in a form that does not identify you, and you control the setting under Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements on your iPhone. We use them only to fix bugs.

If you email us

If you write to [email protected], we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to answer you, keep it only as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up, and never add you to a mailing list. Our email service provider stores the messages on our behalf. This happens outside the app and only when you choose to contact us.

Kelikello is offered to people in the European Union, so the General Data Protection Regulation applies.

  • Fetching the forecast (sending a coordinate and your IP address to FMI) is necessary to provide the app you acquired: performance of a contract, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Using your device location also depends on the permission you give in watchOS, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Answering support email is based on our legitimate interest in helping the people who use the app, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability and to withdraw consent. Because Kelikello keeps everything on your watch and sends nothing to us:

  • To see your data, open the app. The saved places and last report are all there is.
  • To delete it, delete Kelikello from your watch.
  • To stop location use, turn off the permission in Settings.
  • For support email you sent us, ask us at [email protected] and we will show or delete it.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, in particular the one in the country where you live or work.

Children

Kelikello is a general-audience weather app. It does not collect personal data from anyone, including children. If you have a concern, contact us and we will help.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts doing something that changes what is described here, we will update this page and its effective date before the change ships, and mention it in the App Store release notes. We will not weaken this policy quietly.
